The Department of Literature at UC San Diego invites applications for a language lecturer with experience in coordinating language courses. The ideal candidate will teach six language courses (75% Lecturer) per year and oversee the Spanish basic language program (25% Academic Coordinator). Applicants will be expected to organize a series of second year content-based courses from our curriculum. Applicants will be expected to teach some of these classes per quarter.
The candidate would be responsible for coordinating the Spanish language curriculum, supervising Spanish language instructors, evaluating language levels for students, creating and updating syllabi for each of the classes, creating exams, quizzes and other methodological instruments of evaluation, and promoting the study of Spanish on campus.
Ph.D. in Spanish Literature, Second Language Acquisition, or Linguistics required by time of appointment or an MA with equivalent experience. Applicants must have native or near native proficiency in Spanish. Candidates with expertise in bilingual education, Spanish for heritage speakers, and border literacies are preferred. Outstanding teaching evaluations and experience supervising Spanish language programs are required.
Proof of authorization to work in the U.S. will be required prior to and through the employment period (Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1985).
