Descripción 

The Department of Languages and Linguistics at Truman State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish with a focus on Hispanic Linguistics to begin August 2024.

Teaching responsibilities include providing classroom instruction in lower and upper division Spanish curriculum, including courses in Spanish Phonetics and History of the Language. Scholarly activity consistent with Truman’s teacher-scholar model is expected. Additional duties include academic advising, mentoring of students in research and other experiences, and providing service to the department and University.

Requisitos 

A Ph.D. in Hispanic Linguistics is required; ABD will be considered with Ph.D. completion required by August 2024.

  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness in Spanish at the university level
  • Evidence of superior performance in graduate level courses
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish
  • Strong oral and written skills in English
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills
  • Compatibility with the department’s needs, including specialization in Hispanic Linguistics, and the ability to teach a translation course(s), and interest in teaching an Introduction to Linguistics course in English.
  • Commitment to the liberal arts and sciences as a teacher-scholar
  • Evidence of mentoring students in transformative experiences such as undergraduate research, service-learning, internships, study abroad and cultural activities.
