Salary range: 54.3-63.8k
The salary range for this role is set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, qualifications, experience, and education. The above hiring range is one component of the University’s competitive Total Rewards package.

St. John Fisher University invites applications for a full-time (9-month), tenure-track assistant professor position in Spanish to begin Fall 2024.

Job Responsibilities

  • Teaching responsibilities include courses at all levels and formats in the Spanish program.
  • Teach students with diverse learning styles in a variety of undergraduate courses in the languages program and serving the University’s Core curriculum. Course load is 3 courses per semester.
  • Increase the representation of Latinx Studies across disciplines.
  • Engagement with Spanish/English bilingual communities, schools, health care settings, and/or state agencies.
  • Coordinate beginning and intermediate-level language courses.
  • Maintain a consistent, high-quality scholarly agenda.
  • Support student development as an academic advisor and mentor.
  • Assist in the fostering of a climate of equity and inclusion.
  • Engage in professional development activities.
  • Actively participate in department, school, university, and community-level service functions.
  • Develop community-engaged initiatives with diverse student populations and first-generation students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.

 

Requisitos 

Required

  • Ph.D. in Spanish or a closely related field, though doctoral candidates with a scheduled completion date for the dissertation by August 2024 will be considered.
  • Demonstrate native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English
  • Demonstrate commitment to teaching excellence, including experience teaching at the undergraduate level and teaching online.

Preferred

  • Candidates specializing in Spanish for the professions, applied linguistics and second language acquisition, or Spanish as a heritage language and culture in the US.
  • Expertise and experience in the use of technology and online teaching are strongly preferred.
