Anticipated hiring pay range: $50,000-$55,000 annually.

The Kansas State University Department of Modern Languages seeks a creative and innovative teacher for a one-year, full-time position as Teaching Assistant Professor of Spanish, renewable for up to 3 years contingent on funding and need.

The successful candidate will value diversity and innovation in teaching and curriculum development at all levels. 

Ph.D. or ABD (defense by August 2023) in Spanish linguistics or literature, with a background in cultural or literary studies to teach “Introduction to Hispanic Readings & Media,” a core course for undergraduate majors and minors. Other course assignments, depending on the successful candidate’s interests, could include Spanish language; third-year literature and culture courses; Spanish for the professions and/or translation/interpreting; special topics in candidate’s area of expertise.

Service responsibilities include advising undergraduates, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, participating in MA committees and exams, and contributing to section and departmental service initiatives. This position is benefits-eligible and begins in August 2023. 

Requisitos 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or ABD in Spanish (linguistics or literature) or related field. Defending thesis must take place before August 1, 2023.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English
  • Successful candidate will value diversity and innovation at all levels of the Spanish curriculum
  • Commitment to mentoring and advising students at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. obtained by August 2023
  • Experience teaching undergraduate students and designing effective undergraduate courses
  • Expertise or interest in Translation, Interpretation, and/or Spanish for the professions strongly preferred
  • Expertise or interest in curriculum development
  • Experience teaching graduate courses and mentoring graduate students
