Languages in Professions and Intercultural Communication is a unique division in Sweden in which a combination of communicative skills, intercultural expertise and technical knowledge within economy and technology are central to all teaching and research. The division commands expertise in several languages, including English, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, French and German. Our work environment is extremely multicultural, and we are now seeking a senior lecturer in Language for Specific Purpose, specialising in Spanish.

Languages in Professions and Intercultural Communication currently possesses a broad educational mission within the framework of successful programmes within both the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Linköping University The educational mission of the post we now seek to fill includes teaching, supervision, examination, course development and pedagogic development for basic and advanced courses in Spanish, specialising in economy and technology. Teaching principally takes place within the International Business and Economics Programme, and Commercial and Business Law. Other teaching is within the International Master’s in Industrial Engineering and Management, and within Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. In addition, several new courses are included, some of these using remote methods, and some within the framework of the international profile specialising in Spanish.

We nurture a culture in the division that promotes the professional development of our co-workers, and innovative and student-focussed teaching methods of high quality. For this reason, the successful applicant will have ample scope within language for specific purpose to develop course designs and course contents that specialise in language for specific purpose, intercultural communication, and languages in professions. This is the case not only for campus-based teaching, but also for the development of courses to be given using remote methods or in a mixed format.

As senior lecturer in language for specific purpose with a specialisation in Spanish, you will be expected to take responsibility for courses and contribute actively to the development of teaching methods. The successful applicant will be expected to be head of Spanish as a subject within the division, and thus administrative expertise and an ability to plan, organise and develop operations and personnel are merits for the post.

Within the division, we are continuously striving to establish new collaboration partners and networks. It is therefore expected that the successful applicant will contribute actively to the development of a new research environment and to attracting external research funding. A documented ability in such work is, therefore, a merit for the post.

Within the department, close collaboration with companies and other organisations within the research and educational programmes is given priority. Documented expertise in collaboration with other researchers, and in outreach operations and collaboration with the society around us is a merit for the post.

The successful applicant must be prepared to work in a creative, innovative, intercultural and dynamic environment, and to actively commit to the development of the division, with respect to both teaching, administration and research. This includes a commitment to contributing to a healthy workplace environment and strengthening collaboration between language specialisations within the division.

A basic knowledge of Swedish is a particular merit for the post, since several components of the courses are given in Swedish. It is desirable that a successful applicant with another mother tongue than Swedish will be able to teach in Swedish within two years of taking up the employment.

It is a requirement for this appointment that the successful applicant has demonstrated research proficiency within one or several of the following fields: technology, business administration, commercial and business law, and economics.  Documented research expertise within Spanish as second language, Spanish linguistics, and intercultural communication and/or business culture is a particular merit for the post.

Furthermore, documented teaching expertise in distance education is a merit for the post. Documented teaching expertise within the supervision of students in their independent work, and of course development, are merits for the post.

To be qualified for this appointment the applicant must have demonstrated teaching proficiency, received a Degree of Doctor or have the equivalent academic expertise or other professional skill which is of significance with consideration for the subject relevant to the appointment and the associated duties.
