Compensation is £10,042 for the duration of the contract, 1st August 2023 to 31st April 2024.

Descripción 

Bader College, the study abroad campus of Queen's University (Canada), is looking for a part-time teacher/lecturer to deliver one module, Spanish for Beginners (SPAN 111/112), from September 2023 to April 2024 (“Fall Term 2023” and “Winter Term 2024” – each term contains 11 teaching weeks, one mid-term trip week for organised academic activities, and an exam period at the end of the term). This module is open to all students without any previous experience of learning Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a syllabus and teach SPAN 111 and 112 to a small group of undergraduate students (max 30). Weekly formal scheduled teaching: 2 x 80-minutes classes + 2 x 60-minute conversation (or other applied activity) classes (in person at Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex). Also required are 2 hours of weekly office hours and all typical course-related duties and administration.
  • Develop (in collaboration with Principal Lecturer) two field studies (including one on a mid-term trip) to help deliver the Learning Outcomes.
  • Deliver all course components using appropriate student-centric teaching methods.
  • Undertake and complete the administrative work connected with the professional delivery of teaching, including but not limited to promptly responding to communications from academic managers and administrators, setting and evaluating coursework, providing constructive and comprehensive feedback to students in a timely manner (within 14 days), maintaining an up-to-date virtual learning platform, maintaining an accurate record of student attendance, invigilating exams, marking, and submitting results for exams and other evaluations in accordance with Queen’s University academic regulations.
  • Motivate and support students by being accessible, approachable, and responsive to their communications, providing first-line support for sensitive or confidential issues, and referring students to appropriate support services as needed.
  • Ensure equal opportunities for all students, including offering additional support and resources to disadvantaged students, and proactively fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Sessional lecturers are encouraged but not required to:

  • attend and contribute to regular faculty meetings,
  • join in faculty social events,
  • make use of professional development opportunities,
  • support students by attending opening and closing ceremonies and other student events.

 

Requisitos 

  • Holder of a relevant teaching qualification or evidence of equivalent experience. PhD candidates and early career academics encouraged if they have evidence of suitable prior teaching experience.
  • Demonstrable experience of teaching and assessing undergraduate students.
  • Proven record of ability to manage time and work to strict deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Commitment to high quality teaching and creating a fully inclusive, positive learning environment.
  • Ability to pass an enhanced DBS check.
