Descripción

The Department of Romance Languages at Binghamton University is seeking to hire two lecturers in Spanish, beginning in August 2023, to teach courses at the elementary and intermediate levels. This is a full-time position for up to three years, with possibility of further renewal. The teaching load is three courses per semester during the academic year. Language courses at the elementary and intermediate levels are taught with coordination throughout the department. We seek candidates who are enthusiastic about teaching introductory and intermediate language classes and are able to bring knowledge of Spanish-speaking cultures into the classroom.

Apart from teaching, this position involves departmental service, which includes working with and mentoring students outside the classroom (e.g. conversation tables, department programming, special events). Lecturers also serve as departmental advisors to a select number of majors and minors in their respective language division. Thus, in addition to teaching, the position requires an interest in interacting with students outside the classroom and working with colleagues to develop innovative extracurricular projects.

Lecturers are expected to actively contribute to the University's mission of advancing a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion through teaching and service, as well as through engagement with faculty, students, and staff.

Requisitos

Candidates should hold a Master's Degree or PhD in Spanish, and have a track record of successful teaching at the elementary and/or intermediate levels in the language, preferably under the guidance of a coordinator and in close collaboration with colleagues. Preference will be given to candidates with strong evidence of excellence in teaching at the university level. Applicants must have native or near-native fluency in both Spanish and English.

Visa sponsorship is not available. Applicants must already be authorized to work in the United States.
