Descripción

The Department of Hispanic, Portuguese and Latin American Studies (HiPLA) in the School of Modern Languages at the University of Bristol seeks to appoint a Lecturer (Pathway 3, part-time, 0.3FTE) for a period of 6 months (from 8 January to 31 July 2024). We are looking for a colleague with expertise in Modern Spanish History, to teach units at second-year and fourth-year undergraduate level. We are looking above all for a dynamic teacher who is approachable and sensitive to student needs.

What will you be doing?
The successful candidate will direct and teach the Year 2 ‘Introduction to Spanish Peninsular Literature’ (HISP20121) and the Year 4 ‘Nation and Empire in Writing and Visual Culture in Spain (1874 – present)’ (HISP30100) units. These are optional units for students of Spanish in the Department of Hispanic, Portuguese and Latin American Studies. Teaching for these two units will be delivered in person through a combination of lectures and seminars (two hours per unit up to 24 students, 3 hours if the number of students exceeds 24). Teaching may also include some online asynchronous activities. The role involves maintaining and updating the online Blackboard page for the units, which includes all the information and materials that students need. Marking duties for both units will also need to be fulfilled. The successful candidate will also contribute to the team-taught units for Critical Concepts for the Study of the Hispanic World (HISP10010), and Spanish-English translation (HISP30101).

Requisitos

The successful applicant will have a PhD, or be working towards one, with expertise relevant to the teaching brief. They will have some experience teaching at university level, preferably in the UK higher education sector.
