The Department of Hispanic Studies at the College of Charleston seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish. This position is for a Latin Americanist with a special focus in Southern Cone or Andean literature and culture of the 20th and 21st centuries. The department especially welcomes candidates with research interests that include race and ethnicity.
The successful candidate will teach a 3/3 course load, instructing undergraduates at all levels in Hispanic Studies. This position includes opportunities for teaching in relevant units across campus, including Latin American and Caribbean Studies, General Education, Honors College, First Year Experience, and M. Ed. in Languages programs.
Additional duties may include, but are not restricted to, participating in department and college functions; advising students and clubs; occasional directing of summer and/or semester study abroad programs in Spain and Latin America, and other service-related activities in the Department of Hispanic Studies.
Position begins August 2021.
Ph.D. in hand at time of appointment required, at least 2 years of full-time collegiate teaching experience, and a coherent and cohesive research program with promise for future production a must.
Strong command of Spanish and English required.
