The Department of Modern and Classical Languages at Columbus State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish Education.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in foreign language pedagogy and research, and undergraduate courses in Spanish; supervise the foreign language teacher candidate students; coordinate the lower division Spanish courses; and service to the department, college, and university. Normal teaching load is 12 hours per semester. A course reduction is typically offered for those who supervise Teacher Education students.
The successful candidate will be able to foster an environment of professionalism and collaboration; work in continuous improvement of educator preparation and educational research; demonstrate exceptional ability to function as part of a team with university faculty and the community of practice; and engage in practices that support the University’s focus on student engagement and active learning.
Candidates must have a Doctorate in Spanish or related field such as L2 Acquisition, Foreign Language Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or Applied Linguistics; a background in foreign language pedagogy; eighteen (18) plus graduate credit hours in Spanish; experience and evidence of successful teaching; and evidence of research potential. Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of two years’ experience in a K-12 setting.
