The Department of World Languages and Cultures (WLC) at Utah State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Spanish. For this teaching-centered faculty position, we seek to hire an individual with experience in teaching, research and professional practice. This is a tenure-track, acadmic year, 9-month, full time position primarily focused on teaching lower-division Spanish courses as well as advanced grammar and composition. This position is located on the Logan campus but will also provide instructional support to USU’s statewide students and campuses. The individual will report to the WLC department head. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2024.

Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Teaching a full range of classes in Spanish (3/3 class load).
  • Service for the department, college, and university.
  • Mentoring students inside and outside regular teaching hours.
  • Maintain a research profile.

Requisitos 

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Spanish language (to be completed by August 1, 2024)
  • Native or near-native Spanish language proficiency.
  • Good English communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach all levels of Spanish language.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct scholarly research and publish results of research.
  • Evidence of teaching and professional excellence in Spanish language teaching.
  • Previous experience teaching university undergraduate Spanish language classes and the ability to design advanced grammar and composition courses.
  • Ability and willingness to pursue program development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Commitment and experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to produce scholarly work in area(s) of specialization.
  • Ability to provide adequate mentoring and professional development for our Graduate instructors/Adjuncts/Lecturers.
